If you manage a business, chances are you have heard how important it is to have a good workplace culture that allows employees to thrive. Changing a corporate culture is difficult and takes a long time, but slow improvements are possible. Here are four ways to improve your company’s organizational culture.

1. Seek Out Feedback

Nobody knows the company culture better than the people who work there, so ask your employees what they think needs to improve within the organizational culture as well as what they think is going well. You can talk one-on-one with employees, but you are more likely to get honest answers if employees can answer anonymously. If you go the anonymous route, think about what aggregate data you want to collect, such as what department an employee works in and approximately how long they have worked at the company.

2. Focus On One Thing

Promoting change is hard, so it makes more sense to break your goals down into smaller steps and focus on one thing at a time. For example, if one complaint in your company is that separate departments have trouble communicating with each other and getting things done, take a few months to focus on improving that and only that. Small steps you could take towards this goal would be to have employees from different departments eat lunch together one day a week so they can get to know people with who they might only communicate via email.

3. Be Transparent

Be open and honest with your employees about what changes you are trying to make, how that might affect day-to-day operations, and the long-term positive effects you hope to see from the changes. Employees are more likely to get on board with changes to the organizational culture if they know there is something in it for them as well as the company. Honestly is important too, since employees would rather hear bad news sooner than later, and hear it from the leaders of the company instead of from other employees through the grapevine.

4. Set An Example

Those in charge of the company should lead the change in organizational culture and set a good example for employees to follow. Employees will be more likely to want to help with the change if they see the leaders of the company putting in the hard work too.

Consider these four things if you are seeking to make changes within your company.
